Romance is the most underestimated genre in the business, and the most reliable. It is built around the oldest story shape there is — two people, an obstacle, a resolution — and it has survived every format shift, from the studio-era screwball to the streaming-era holiday special, because the engine is timeless.

The pleasure is in the structure, not the surprise. You know the arc. That is the point: a good romance earns the ending it promised you, and the joy is in how it gets there — the banter, the near-misses, the moment the two of them finally see each other.

Use it for: comfort, a guaranteed good ending, and the warm predictable rhythm of the rom-com. Don't expect it for: narrative risk — romance trades novelty for satisfaction, deliberately.
